Copa América: In the Quarterfinals against Venezuela, Ivory Coast born Ismaël Koné took things into his hands when it mattered the most: qualifying for the Semifinals. With no fear, he took the ball for the penalty and put it straight in the net to send Canada to his first semifinals in a football game ever.

Canada beat Venezuela on penalty shootouts (4-3) and will now face Messi and Argentina in the Semifinals in the Copa América.

His full name is Ismaël Kenneth Jordan Koné, and he was born in Abidjan, the capital city of the Ivory Coast on June 22nd, 2002, son of Susan and Salifou Koné.

According to MSN, Koné will be sold by English club Watford to French team Olympique Marseille this summer. ”

According to Leventhal, a deal in principle has been agreed upon between the two clubs, with only fine details remaining to be sorted. The fee is reportedly around US$19 million.

The 22-year-old Koné, who is currently playing for Canada at the Copa América, has been with Watford since December 2022, having moved there from MLS club CF Montreal. Koné was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, but grew up in Montreal after moving when he was seven.

Koné has risen quickly through the ranks, domestically and internationally, and has been capped 21 times by Canada, starting both games at the Copa América. (MSN)

Kone was seven when he came to Canada and signed a pro contract with Montreal, his hometown club, in August 2021. He debuted in Major League Soccer in February 2022, playing 25 games last season.

According to Squamish, For Kone, the transfer to England is another step forward in his rapid rise.

“I’m only 20 and I get to play on a world stage,” he said in Qatar. “It’s unbelievable.”

“I didn’t have a professional contract two years ago but here I am,” he added. “Kone, with the physicality he has, he’s so intense,” Eustaquio said in the buildup to Tuesday’s match. ”
